The Perhentian (pronounced Perhen-TEE-AHN) Islands lie approximately 10 nautical miles off the northeastern coast of West Malaysia in the state of Terengganu. The two main islands are Perhentian Besar and Perhentian Kecil.
The Perhentian Islands have become a popular travel destination for families and backpackers alike due to the many lodging options that accommodate almost any budget (ones can splurge or go on shoestring budget). Both islands have palm-fringed white coral sand beaches (that can be tough on the feet) and turquoise blue sea. Popular tourist activities include scuba-diving, snorkeling, and swimming.
Due to the eastern monsoon, the season in the Perhentians (and all other east coast islands) is effectively limited to the period between the beginning of March until late October. Outside this period the seas can be very rough and choppy, skies overcast, and with currents that make swimming dangerous and most (though not all) accommodation options are closed. However, many of them especially those located on Coral Bay start on beginning of Feb. Do contact me for more information regarding packages available at Perhentian Islands throughout the year. Trust me, I'm a local 😉
